Ruth Easterbrook

Biography

Ruth Easterbrook is a studio artist based in Philadelphia. She earned her MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and her BFA from Syracuse University. She has shown her work across the United States, including at Market House Craft Center (Lancaster, PA; 2020) and Charlie Cummings Gallery (Gainesville, FL; 2020). She has held numerous artist residencies, including at the Harvard Ceramics Program, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.

Artist Statement

Ruth Easterbrook makes a variety of pottery forms from mugs, bowls, and plates to vases, candlesticks, and more. These forms are made using different making techniques, such as throwing and hand building, and sometimes combining the two. The surfaces of these pots are decorated with a variety of flowers. To achieve the soft flowing designs, the artist uses multiple glazes, which are mapped out, layered and inlaid one glaze at a time. Fired to cone six in an electric kiln.
